The Bandera Riverside Lodge is our favorite place in the world, a charming but unapologetically rustic lodge located about 5 miles from the “Cowboy Capital of the World”, Bandera. The house is actually two comfortable vintage buildings, built in the early thirties and full of character

The main house has central air/heat, and a master bedroom with king-size bed, plus a sun porch with two twin beds. The guest apartment—adjacent to the main house--features two bedrooms, one king and one queen, with another bath. In total, the property sleeps eight, although because of the unique floor plan, it's equally appropriate for just a single couple. It is perfect for family getaways and vacation weeks, or for several friends just getting "out of town" for the weekend. It can be rented for a month at a time, and during the Covid shutdown, some city dwellers did just that. We prefer to limit occupancy to 6 at any given time, although we’re willing to discuss it.

The house is on three acres of land about 5 miles from town, on the edge of a hill sloping down to the clear and sparkling Medina River. Winding stone steps lead down to the water, so that tubing, canoeing, fishing, and swimming are truly right on the property. (Because of the river access stairs, the lodge isn’t ideal for the mobility-impaired, elderly, or for toddlers so ask for details before booking.) The three acres are flat except for the riverside hill--great for games, wildlife watching, and stargazing. It has fireplaces in both the kitchen and living room, an outdoor chimney-style barbecue pit, a swing set and sandbox, and a magnificent view.

Nearby Bandera is pure Texas fun with its cowboy dance halls, rodeos, horses, hunting, and hayrides. It is only about an hour to any of the following popular tourist destinations: Garner State Park, Fiesta Texas, SeaWorld, Schlitterbahn, Lost Maples, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, and San Antonio. There’s a LOT to do and see! Or, take heed of the patio plaque that says “On this site in 1893, nothing happened”--to just kick back and watch the river.

***Please note that Bandera Hideaway is not officially part of the Inn; it is Mike and Cathy's private residence. Many policies differ from the inn's, including payment and cancellation policies.
